CMAC is proud to announce that the CMAC Rules as Appointing Authority in Ad Hoc Arbitration was awarded Best Chinese Practice in Services at the 2022 China International Fair for Trade in Services Award Ceremony for Best Practice in Services, which took place on 3 September 2022 at the China National Convention Center in Beijing. CMAC is the one and only arbitration institution amongst the twenty winners.
Over the years, CMAC has continued to enhance its practices through a wide range of measures such as amending its arbitration rules and upgrading its case management mechanism. With China's further opening to international arbitration, the landscape of ad hoc arbitration in mainland China is about to be reshaped. By closely following the trend and warmly embracing best practice in international maritime arbitration, CMAC is pleased to have its efforts recognized nationwide in elevating the popularity of ad hoc arbitration in mainland China.
CMAC Rules as Appointing Authority in Ad Hoc Arbitration, together with China Maritime Law Association Ad Hoc Arbitration Rules, was released on 18 March 2022 at CMLA-CMAC jointly press conference in Beijing. Both rules came into force on the same day. Adopted part of UNCITRL Model Law provisions, CMAC Rules as Appointing Authority in Ad Hoc Arbitration were designed to provide external support for ad hoc arbitrations yet with limited involvement. The two rules together took an experimental but important step in pioneering ad hoc arbitration practice in mainland China, and showcased efforts of the community to improve international arbitration in China.
