From September 25 to 27, 2017, a delegation of 11 people, led by CHEN Bo, Deputy Secretary-General of the Maritime Commission and Vice President of the Court of Arbitration, as well as arbitrators from the China Maritime Arbitration Commission (CMAC) and staff of CMAC, attended the Danish 2017 International Congress of Maritime Arbitrators (ICMA) in Copenhagen. The conference was hosted by the Danish arbitration institution and lasted for five days. More than 250 arbitration institution representatives and arbitrators from more than 30 countries were gathered.
On the morning of 25 September, the 2017 ICMA Conference officially opened. Jesper Lett, Chairman of the Danish Arbitration Institution, David Martowski, Chairman of the ICMA Executive Committee, and Jon Stokholm, Judge of the Danish Supreme Court, delivered speeches. Senior British arbitrator Bruce Harris delivered a keynote speech in memory of Cedric Barclay, the initiator of ICMA.
The conference is divided into five major topics and 18 sub-topics. The participants focus on dispute resolution clauses, bills of lading, cargo sales, insurance and mutual insurance, contract interpretation, shipbuilding and offshore, arbitration cost securities and third-party funding, interim measures, compensation for damages, and enforcement of awards and other topics were discussed enthusiastically. Members of the CMAC delegation made speeches under three of the topics. Professor CHU Beiping, Dean of the School of Law of Dalian Maritime University, delivered a speech entitled "Causes and Obstacles to the Amendment of the China Arbitration Law (1995)" in the session of "Current Development of Arbitration".
